The Bluebell Railway is embarking on an ambitious and exciting next step in its development: to recognise the entire railway as a museum and achieve accreditation through Arts Council England.

As part of this journey, we are seeking a Volunteer Project Manager to lead this important project from inception through to successful accreditation.

About the Project

The Bluebell Railway is progressing towards becoming a Community Benefit Society and establishing the whole railway as a fully recognised museum. Achieving Arts Council England Museum Accreditation will be a significant milestone, strengthening our position as a leader in railway preservation and heritage.

The Role

The Volunteer Project Manager will:

• Lead and coordinate the project from initial planning to final accreditation

• Develop and manage a structured project plan

• Work with the Museum Curator, who will provide specialist guidance

• Bring together and coordinate a small project team, largely drawn from existing volunteers and staff

• Oversee the preparation of all required documentation

• Support the development of appropriate systems (including collections and documentation databases)

• Submit the accreditation application

• Help establish sustainable processes to maintain accreditation going forward

Practical Details

• This is a volunteer role

• Much of the work can be undertaken remotely

• Regular visits to the railway will be required to work with colleagues and stakeholders

• Please note that access to Horsted Keynes Station and Sheffield Park Station can be challenging by public transport
