We are a small local charity run by a bunch of friendly outgoing and fun loving volunteers who aim to provide a collective voice for Mid Sussex older people and to be a two way information network.

Our Treasurer is hanging up her spreadsheets - can you fill this role and help us?

The role of the treasurer is to:

- Oversee the financial affairs of the Charity and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within the accepted accounting practices.

- Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place.

- Monitor and report on a monthly basis the financial health of the organisation to the management committee by way of production of necessary financial report/returns, accounts and audit records.

Specifically:

- Liaise with the relevant personnel and in particular with the Chair and Vice Chair, who are both bank/cheque signatories.

- Arrange payments usually via BACS system to creditors. All payments must have two signatures. Using CAF bank and systems that are already in place to enable this.

- Attend monthly management meetings and supply reports at committee meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc.)

- Provide and produce an annual budget in liaison with the Chair and Vice Chair and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the financial year (this is currently November)

- Prepare accounts for year ending December and liaise with Auditor/Examiner. These are usually submitted in January/February.

- Ensure proper records are kept and that effective procedures and controls are in place.

Skills

This is not a big or onerous role but we do need someone who has a good knowledge of accounts and is computer literate.

Our current Treasurer is willing to do a complete handover and give support.

An ideal candidate would have:

- Knowledge and experience of book-keeping and financial management

- Knowledge and experience of finance practice relevant to a voluntary organisation, or previous experience of commercial organisations

- Ability to communicate clearly and join in the fun

- Computer literate

On average it is calculated that approximately two or three hours per month will be needed to carry out this role satisfactorily. Except at end of year when accounts are prepared for audit, when a little extra time will probably be needed. Committee meeting are on the first Monday of the month. This is a flexible role so times and days across the week to suit.
